CULTURAL UTILISATION OF SPACE

The Arts Catalyst is working to promote and facilitate artists' access to and utilisation of space and space facilities.

We are currently involved in a number of initiatives, including:

Cultural Utilisation of Space Study for the European Space Agency
The Arts Catalyst has an ongoing contract with the European Space Agency to develop a cultural utilisation programme for the human spaceflight, microgravity and exploration division.

ITACCUS (IAF Committee on the Cultural Utilisation of Space)
The Arts Catalyst is a founder member of ITACCUS, a new committee of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF). The Director of The Arts Catalyst, Nicola Triscott, is the current Co-Chair, and recently spoke on behalf of ITACCUS at the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space

2-day symposium at the International Astronautical Congress, Glasgow, September/October 2008.

MIR (Microgravity Interdisciplinary Research)
A consortium of European arts organisations which, under the leadership of The Arts Catalyst and Projekt Atol, organised a series of parabolic 'zero gravity' flights for artistic experimentation with the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre, Star City Moscow. The programme was funded by the European Commission, the Arts Council of England and others.
