Brandon Ballengée: National Amphibians & Biodiversity Study (2007-8) During 2007, ecological artist Brandon Ballengée led a series of public field-trips, study days and workshops investigating amphibian and insect biodiversity, working with the public of all ages as well as collaborating scientists. These projects have been an integral part of Ballengee's Malamp project, which is a study into declining amphibians in the UK, in collaboration with Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Gunpowder Park Essex and Space Studios London. Universe Gallery (2006-7) The Universe Gallery is a major collaborative project between Arts Catalyst and Mulberry School, a secondary school for girls in Tower Hamlets, London. Artists Tony Hall, Joanna Griffin & Kate Tierney have been working with students to transform the bare school corridors into a multimedia interactive exhibition. The first phase deals with the physics of the early universe. Space Day (2007) The Arts Catalyst ran an art-science day focusing on space for the whole of Lambeth Academy, a secondary school in Clapham, London. Artists were Tony Hall, Joanna Griffin; Mandinga Arts, Dimitri Launder and Joel Grey. Near Earth (2006) Near Earth was a week of workshops for young people (14-19 years) exploring space through digital photography, animation, sound and music, drama and the performing arts. The workshops were led by Semiconductor, Luke Jerram, Kate Tierney, Antony Hall, Trevor Mathison, Mat Fox, Marcus Ahlers, Hilary Westlake and Morag Wightman. Scientists Chris Welch and Kevin Fong gave insights and inspiration of the science of space travel and observation. Srishti SpaceBaby Workshop (2006) Workshop led by London Fieldworks for students at the Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology. East of Eden (2004-2006) East of Eden was an ambitious collaborative project between artist Lucy Stockton-Smith and the Arts Catalyst with Sandwich Technology College in Kent. Lucy worked with teachers and students to plan, design, build and fully utilise two geodesic ecology domes in the grounds of the school. Each dome houses a microenvironment in which plants are grown. The first is an organic environment incorporating an ant farm, wormery and frog pond. The second utilises modern commercial farming techniques, including pesticides and intensive cultivation. Sound Forms (2005) Antony Hall led 5-week workshop programme with Heathbrook Primary School in London to explore sound through electronics and self made instruments. Ecology: Action Research (2005) Antony Hall worked at Heathbrook Primary School in South London. The school has a beautiful and flourishing wild life garden that contains a pond. Antony explored the garden and pond with the pupils to develop an informed sense of wonder and respect for the animal life they found there. Sally Hampson worked with Oakley Special School in Tunbridge Wells. Sally works with narrative and also worked with the schools garden, creating an imaginative nature expedition in the wildlife garden, using drawing, painting and sculpture. Part of Creative Partnerships CARA Action Research. The Bird-Lake Museum (2001 - 2004) The Bird-Lake Museum is a travelling museum of natural history, created by young people (10 - 15 year olds) with special educational needs with artist Sally Hampson. The original participating schools in 2001 included Oakley School, Tunbridge Wells, Kent; Waveney School, Tonbridge, Kent; Turney School, East Dulwich, London; Rosendale School, East Dulwich, London.
